MITCHELL – Though the Governors kept trying to come all the way back against Mitchell Thursday, a big Kernel first-quarter run was the difference in the game.
Pierre Governor Boys Basketball lost to Mitchell 62-55 at the Corn Palace, ending the Governors’ three-game winning streak.
Mitchell (13-4) had a 10-0 run in the first quarter and led 21-9 after eight minutes. After Pierre (11-7) trailed 29-21 at halftime, they came within two points once in the third quarter and twice in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t tie or take the lead.
Markus Talley scored 16 points to lead Mitchell. Steele Morgan scored 14, Dylan Soulek had 11 points and Charlie McArdle scored 10 with nine rebounds.
The Governors’ Lincoln Kienholz led all scorers with 25 points. Ben Heisler tallied 11 and Jackson Edman scored 10 points with seven rebounds.
