WATERTOWN – Hamlin earned its first girls basketball state championship since 2005 Saturday with a 58-55 victory over Wagner in the title game of the SDHSAA Class A Girls Basketball State Tournament at Watertown Civic Arena.
Hamlin trailed by nine points in the first quarter, then put together an 18-2 run that extended into the second quarter. Wagner rallied and trailed by only 34-33 at halftime. Hamlin maintained its slight lead through the second half and Wagner missed what would have been a tying three-pointer at the final horn.
Kami Wadsworth led Hamlin (25-0) with 17 points. Brooklyn Brandreit had 14 and Ally Abraham scored 12. Ashlyn Koupal scored 14 for Wagner (24-2) and Emma Yost had 13.
The championship is the third in girls basketball for Hamlin.

Sisseton 55, Red Cloud 47
Sisseton (22-3) finished third in its first state tournament since 2012.
Krista Langager poured in 27 points with 12 rebounds for Sisseton.
Maikole Carlow scored 18 for Red Cloud (21-4).
5th Place
Sioux Falls Christian 46, Flandreau 43 (OT)
Ellie Lems put Sioux Falls Christian (23-3) ahead for good with a shot in the paint late in overtime. Lems scored 19 points.
Lizzie Pavlis scored 13 for Flandreau (20-6).
7th Place
Rapid City Christian 66, Lakota Tech 53
Olivia Kieffer moved into the top 10 in South Dakota girls basketball scoring with 33 points in her final game for Rapid City Christian (20-6). Hayden Thorton scored 19.
Jodene Hunter led Lakota Tech (19-7) with 16.
