PIERRE – Through seven innings Saturday, the Oahe Zap saw a good chance to end their losing streak. But Spearfish used the eighth and ninth to come back and continue the frustration for the Zap.
Down 3-1 after seven innings, the Sasquatch rallied for two runs in the eighth and five in the ninth for an 8-3 win at Hyde Stadium, extending the Oahe losing streak to seven games.
Jackson Mix gave the Zap (1-10) a 1-0 first inning lead with a home run to right. Spearfish tied the game in the top of the fifth, but gave the Zap the lead right back with an error in the bottom half. Kyle Memarian gave the Zap a 3-1 lead in the seventh with a sacrifice fly.
Gavin Starcher pitched excellently for the Zap, allowing just a run and four hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.
Daniel Thiessen tied the game for Spearfish with a two-run single in the eighth. In the ninth, Ryan Bachman hit an RBI single to give the Sasquatch a 4-3 lead. A struggling Zap bullpen then walked two with the bases loaded and hit two with the bases loaded for the other four runs.
