PIERRE – Post 8 showed a sign of improvement Monday, including a first win this season against a South Dakota team.
Mitchell held off a rally to defeat Post 8 in game one of a doubleheader at Hyde Stadium, 4-3, but the Eights were dominant in the nightcap in a 10-3 win.
Game 1 – Mitchell 4, Post 8 3
Mitchell scored a run in the first and three more in the fourth, but Post 8 came back. Cooper Terwilliger drove in all of the runs for the Eights with an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run double in the sixth. Ridge Leimbach lost on the mound, but struck out eight in five innings.
Game 2 – Post 8 10, Mitchell 3
Post 8 (2-19) took control early in this game, scoring a run in the first on a Carter Sanderson RBI single and five more in the second on an RBI double by Matthew Hanson, another run-scoring single by Sanderson, a wild pitch, and RBI singles by Nolan Petersen and Matthew Coverdale.
Four more runs came across in the sixth inning from a Jonny Lyons RBI double, a two-run single by Terwilliger, and an RBI single by Spencer Easland.
Terwilliger allowed two runs and four hits in five innings with six strikeouts for the win.
