The Pierre Fire Department was called to the George Mickelson Criminal Justice Center on the north side of Pierre yesterday afternoon (June 21, 2023).
Fire Chief Ian Paul says firefighters responded just after 3:45pm and staff was evacuating when firefighters got there.
The Pierre Police Department’s Central South Dakota Communications dispatch center is located in the Mickelson building, but Paul says the dispatchers stayed on the job.
Fire crews were on scene for about 30 minutes.
Along with the dispatch center, the Mickelson building houses the Law Enforcement Training Center and the Attorney General’s Office.
