Charges are pending against a 22 year old man from Weaverville, North Carolina, after an accident Tuesday night (June 27, 2023, about 8:15pm) near the Missouri River bridge in Pierre that left one vehicle on its side.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the 22 year old was driving a 1990 Toyota Tacoma westbound at 50mph and pulled around turning traffic. That’s when a 2022 Chevy Malibu leaving the ClubHouse Hotel pulled out and T-boned the Toyota, causing it to roll and come to rest on its side in the eastbound lane.
Traffic was temporarily stopped until emergency responders were able to direct motorists around the incident.
Neither the 22 year old nor his passenger, a 45 year old woman from Pierre, were seriously injured. The 42 year old male from Orland Park, Illinois, driving the Chevy was also not seriously injured. All parties were wearing their seatbelt and alcohol was not involved.
Once the vehicles were removed from the scene, traffic resumed.
The accident is still under investigation.
