FORT PIERRE – As usual for this season, Stanley County showed a strong running game. But Broch Zeeb helped celebrate Homecoming with his best passing game of the season.
Zeeb threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns Friday as Stanley County topped Lemmon/McIntosh 48-16 at Ole Williamson Field.
Colton Brady had another strong game running the ball, with 149 yards and three touchdowns.
Zeeb intercepted a pass in the end zone to end Lemmon/McIntosh’s first possession, which consumed the first 9:52 of the game. He then found Barret Schweitzer for a 39-yard touchdown with 45 seconds left in the first quarter and SC led 8-0 after one period.
Brady’s first touchdown run, from 29 yards, extended the Buffalo lead to 16-0 with 7:35 left in the first half.
Less than two minutes later, Lemmon/McIntosh scored on a running back pass from Blair Ham to Wyatt Schell for 61 yards.
Then, just before halftime, a 34-yard punt return by Brendon Bothwell set up a 45-yard scoring pass from Zeeb to Paxton Deal with 13 seconds to go and Stanley County (6-1) led 24-8 at halftime.
SC then put the game away with two scoring drives of over 90 yards in the second half. The first was 92 yards and ended with an Ehran Cantu three-yard touchdown run with 6:02 left in the third quarter. The second was 98 yards and resulted in Brady’s second score, from three yards, and Stanley County led 40-8 with 7:33 left.
Blair Ham for Lemmon/McIntosh and Brady scored on runs later in the fourth quarter.
Stanley County is tied for fourth in the 9AA seed points standings and a win in the final regular season game Friday at Faith will likely assure a first-round playoff game at home for the Buffaloes.
