Nationally, today (Nov. 28, 2023) is known as Giving Tuesday. In South Dakota, it’s the annual “South Dakota Day of Giving.” Either way, it’s a day to focus on donating to local non profit organizations.
Capital Area United Way Executive Director Holly Wade says for each donation made to them today and throughout the holiday season, a card will be mailed to you to give to the person or people you made the donation in honor of. She says the card tells them how that money will help people in Hughes and Stanley Counties.
Wade says a small inconvenience on your part can make a big difference to someone in the Pierre-Fort Pierre area.
Wade says donations collected help financially support 16 Partner Agencies as well as Community Impact programs such as Imagination Library, Say Yes to the Dance and Girls on the Run. Ninety-eight percent of all donations stay in Hughes and Stanley Counties.
Another way to support the Capital Area United Way is through the purchase of the “From the Prairie” cookbook. It’s full of recipes submitted by South Dakota state government employees.
