BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Pierre Governor boys basketball team needed extra minutes to earn a victory, but did ultimately accomplish that mission Tuesday night (Feb. 13, 2024) with a 54-50 win at Brookings.
Dawson Getz led the charge with a career high 29 points, stepping up big for the Govs in the absence of Jett Zabel, their one true post player, who missed the game due to illness. Down by seven at halftime and eight going to the fourth quarter, Pierre tied the score at 40 and an 8-0 run to begin the final frame, but the game went to overtime in a 46-all tie. Getz then scored all eight points for the Governors in the overtime to key the win, as the Govs survived against an inspired Bobcat team with just one win on the season. Owen Burns led Brookings with 16 points.
Pierre improves to 10-7 and will host top-ranked Mitchell on Friday in a game that will start at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
