PIERRE – A popular sports cliché says you can’t coach speed, and that may be true, but it still seemed to be a major factor in Sioux Falls Jefferson’s 64-47 win at Riggs High Gym over the Pierre Governors Tuesday night. Jefferson ran the floor well all game long, beating the Governors down the floor a number of times off both made baskets and misses and shot a high percentage as a result in winning their fourth straight game. The Cavaliers were also helped by a good mix of physicality and finesse from Mason Payne, their big man in the middle, who led the victory with 14 points on a 7-of-7 shooting effort. Dawson Sechser added 12 points and Tyler Bohannon 11 for Jefferson, who appears to be peaking at the right time with just one game to go in the regular season.
Dawson Getz scored 15 and Jett Zabel 13 to lead Pierre, but the Govs slipped to 10-9 on the season with the loss.
Pierre will end the regular season Friday at Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Hear the game on RIVER 92-7 FM with a 6:30 pregame, and watch the live video, available at https://drgnews.com/river.
