The South Dakota State softball team has won eight straight games, including their first five Summit League conference games, to improve to 21-18 on the season. But it wasn’t always looking that way. The Jackrabbits are just 1-10 against AP-ranked top-25 opponents, and have spent large parts of the season under 0.500.
Despite this, Senior pitcher Tori Kniesche has SDSU well on their way to collecting their fourth consecutive Summit League regular season title. On Monday, Kniesche was named to her second straight Summit League Pitcher of the Week award, and her third overall this season. In her last four starts, she has thrown three no-hitters. In an illustrious Jackrabbit career that already has Kniesche as the program all-time leader in wins (73), shutouts (36), and strikeouts (839), she now has 10 total career no-hitters.
In the last two weeks that has seen as many Pitcher of the Week honors, Kniesche has pitched 26 scoreless innings with only four hits surrendered. Of the 90 batters she faced over that stretch, she struck out 47 of them.
SDSU’s 5-0 Summit League record is currently a conference-best. The Jackrabbits have outscored conference foes a combined 28-1. They will have their first home games of the season this weekend in Brookings, S.D. at the Jackrabbit Softball Stadium against Kansas City.
