The MLB has reached it’s pseudo-midway point in the season which means it is time for the All-Star break. The MLB All-Star festivities have consistently drawn more viewers than the other major North American professional sports have, probably because it is taken more seriously by its players than the others. Tonight is arguably the most popular night of All-Star week, as eight of the leagues heaviest hitters face off in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby.
The MLB has changed up the framework of the Home Run Derby over the past decade, moving away from the standard “10 outs to see how many homeruns you can hit” to what we have now with timed at-bats. The league is still tinkering with the format, making another change this year where hitters will not go head-to-head, but instead go based off total HR’s. Personally, I miss the days when they got 10 outs and had all night to hit homers if they wanted to. But I understand why they had to change, MLB operates on “If it ain’t broke, lets break it.”
This years All-Star week is being hosted at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX.
Below is the schedule for the final two days All-Star week:
Monday, July 15th 7:00 CT on ESPN: T-Mobile Home Run Derby
Tuesday, July 16th 7:00 CT on FOX: MLB All-Star Game
