MOUNT VERNON, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers bounced back in a big way Friday night, shutting out Mount Vernon-Plankinton 30-0 in a Week 2 playoff rematch from last season.
After a tough season-opening loss to defending state champion St. Thomas More, the Tigers came out with a much different look against Mount Vernon-Plankinton, taking control early on both sides of the ball. Easton Eisemann helped get the Mobridge-Pollock offense rolling when he connected with Kale Knudson on a deep pass downfield, setting the tone for the Tigers’ passing attack. Mobridge-Pollock continued to find success offensively throughout the night, eventually putting 30 points on the scoreboard.
Defensively, the Tigers were aggressive from the start, consistently bringing pressure and making it difficult for Mount Vernon-Plankinton to get anything going. Mobridge-Pollock’s defense kept the Titans off the scoreboard for the entire game, finishing the night with a shutout. The Tigers did have a few opportunities to put the game away even earlier. Mobridge-Pollock struggled with a turnover on downs in the red zone early in this one and later another turnover, leaving points on the field that could have made the lead even larger.
Still, the Tigers continued to find ways to produce offensively. Knudson came up with one of the biggest plays of the night, bringing in a spectacular deep catch while fighting through double coverage. He also recorded the first receiving touchdown of the game and added a defensive interception, making him the Burger King Player of the Game. Mack Saxon also found the end zone for the first time this season, while Eisemann scored twice with his legs to cap off a strong night at quarterback. Eisemann remained mistake-free through the air as well, finishing the game without throwing an interception.
Mobridge-Pollock will look to keep the momentum going when they host Rapid City Christian for their Homecoming Game, next Friday, September 4th, kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. CST.
