Stanley County was coming off two tough losses going into last night’s matchup against Crow Creek, knowing this game had essentially become a must-win according to head coach Joey Fischer who told me before the game, “at this point, they’re all pretty much must-wins from here on out.” And he’s not lying, the Buffs currently sit 10-3 and tied for 13th in Region A, but with only six games remaining, losses become detrimental this late in the season. Which is why Stanley County needed a solid night offensively to slip back into the rhythm they had been dominating in back in December, and boy did they get it.
The Buffs came out early in the game determined to play from ahead, and a couple early threes from Eddie Duffy and Paxton Deal got Stanley Co. out to a 16-10 lead after one quarter. About halfway through the second quarter, the Buffs started to essentially take the game over. You could almost feel a shift in the building, but that was also felt by Kingston Big Eagle and he decided to take the game into his own hands. Big Eagle locked onto the rim and was getting himself to the hoop any way he could. Big Eagle had an amazing night offensively and was a fun player to watch, finishing with 31-points. But the “three-headed-monster” we often refer to in Duffy, Montana and Deal exploded in route to a 66-49 win over the Chieftains. Kaden Montana found his shot in the second half, and when I say shot I mean he started using his size to his advantage and started getting to the rim. In my opinion, when Montana has his A-game, he is one of the best finishers with the basketball in the state. Montana finished with 16, Paxton Deal finished with 21 with a three, and the Baumann Lumber Player of the Game was Eddie Duffy who, after coming off an illness, finished with 22-points and a handful of threes.
