The Lyman Raiders have been one of the most dominant teams in 2024,’25 this season, coming into last night’s game boasting a 15-3 record. The Lady Coyotes, who came in at 9-9, are one of the youngest teams taking the floor around South Dakota this season, but they play much more mature than their young roster will lead you to believe.
It looked like Lyman was going to set it on cruise control after getting out to a first quarter, 17-2 lead, but Jones County was not going to roll over and let Lyman dictate the rest of the game. The Lady Coyotes came out in the second quarter and dug in defensively cutting the deficit down to single-digits at one point in the second quarter. Throughout the game and into the second half, Lyman would begin to run away with it, but Jones County would earn a steal or make a big bucket to keep the Raiders at bay, slowly but surely, the Lady Coyotes began chipping away at the deficit.
Late in the fourth quarter, Jacey Jensen hit one of her four, three-pointers which cut even deeper into the lead. Jones County found themselves trailing by one sole possession. After trading a few more baskets, the Lady Coyotes found themselves down six with under a minute left. Jones County decided not to foul and instead play for a stop or a steal. They got the stop they were looking for, but with only :18 seconds left, they simply did not have enough time for the two possessions a comeback would require, and the Raiders would go on to win 38-34.
Lyman now looks ahead to the postseason, while Jones County will close out their regular season on the road against 10-6 White River.
