Pierre was on a mission to close the regular season out strong with two doubleheaders at home on Friday and Saturday, and they did just that taking three out of four games from Washington and Lincoln.
Friday afternoon, the Govs took game one 12-7 and dominated game two 8-2. In game one, it seemed Washington always had an answer for Pierre, the Govs would stretch out a lead and the Warriors would close it. Pierre ultimately would extend the lead out of reach thanks to some timely hitting by Carter Schiefelbein and George Stalley as they scored some insurance before ending game one with the win.
Game two saw more Govs offense from Schiefelbein, Stalley and company, as Ridge Leimbach, Porter Hunsley and Dawson Getz would get in on the action driving in runs as it seemed the Warriors just ran out of gas trying to keep up with Pierre in game one.
On Saturday. it was Carter Schiefelbein yet again scoring some crucial runs as Pierre came from behind and took a 4-2 lead and the rest came down to Leimbach who would get all but one out in the game with 6.2 IP and 12 strikeouts to go with it.
In the Govs final regular season game of the year, both teams would deliver a nine-inning thriller as the Govs, down to their last out, would tie the game at one run apiece. Trading pitching back and forth, Lincoln finally cracked in with three runs in the ninth before going onto win 4-1. This should leave the Govs with some added motivation to get back out onto the diamond for Regions later this week on 5/16 and 5/17.
