After yesterday’s game against Tea Area was moved to this afternoon because of weather, the Govs main goal was to finish their regular season home schedule off strong. They did just that, and did it in dramatic fashion.
Inside the circle, Noel Kist came out poised and hurled a perfect three innings to start the game, keeping Tea Area off the bases until the fourth inning and striking out seven. The Govs offense got to work early scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to a McKenzi Flottmeyer two-run single. The Govs would add three more runs in the fourth making it a 5-1 game and cruising right along. But Tea Area, a very talented team who has played a tough schedule, would not go down without a fight as Preslie Benning and Allie Wallum would drive their team back in front. Benning drove in three runs on the day and Wallum hit a two-run homer to give Tea a 6-5 lead late.
The Govs were down, but not out as Flottmeyer again delivered on a play that almost defies the laws of physics with a ground ball that started fair, went foul and then danced back fair again which would score the game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, Noel Kist got every players dream scenario with the bases loaded and two outs with a chance to walk it off. Kist put a charge into one, driving it to left field which ended up clipping off the tip of the fielders glove and dropping for a base hit that would score Ally Keyes and win the game for the Govs 7-6. The celebration was on after that as the Govs closed out their home schedule with an invigorating win before going on the road tomorrow to close out their regular season schedule against Harrisburg at 5:30 PM CT. Tea Area falls to 4-9 while the Govs improve to 4-15.
