The Chamberlain Cubs boys basketball team pulled out one of their big win in recent years, taking down the 13-win Wagner Red Raiders Friday night at home. The Cubs came in with a record of 9-7 looking for their fifth win over the last six games, and they would have to do it against a team in Wagner looking to bounce back after a 54-43 loss to 14-3 Sanborn Central-Woonsocket.
The game trend started with Wagner holding a slight advantage throughout the first two quarters which were mirror images of themselves. Wagner went to the half leading 30-28 after two straight quarters of 15-14 basketball. Wagner’s AJ Kotab led the first half in scoring with 9, while Chamberlain’s Riddik Big Eagle had 8.
The third quarter saw Wagner stretch out their lead to seven and they looked like they might be on their way to another win, but the Cubs flipped the proverbial switch and took over the game in the final frame.
Chamberlain outscored the Red Raiders 28-13 in the fourth quarter as the shots started to fall from everywhere. Traevyn Roubideaux exploded for 15 second half points on his way to 22 total as Chamberlain launched themselves to a 66-58 win.
Chamberlain moved into double-digits in the win column improving to 10-7 while Wagner fell to 13-4 in what was arguably one of the games of the night around the state.
