A pursuit out of Moody County ends in Brookings.
Moody County Sheriff Troy Wellman said law enforcement with the Moody County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle for expired registration on Monday (May 11, 2026) shortly before 10:30 a.m. near mile marker 116 on I-29. He said the vehicle refused to stop and fled.
Wellman said deputies finally executed a “felony stop” on the vehicle at Exit 132 — where I-29 intersects with Highway 14 in Brookings. He said the driver was then arrested without incident and charged with speeding, aggravated eluding, DUI, expired registration and possession of controlled substances.
The Moody County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by both the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and the Brookings Police Department.
