Pierre’s annual slurry seal street maintenance program began earlier this week and is expected to be completed by approximately Sunday (July 12, 2026).
The project includes preventative maintenance on approximately 63 city blocks. Slurry seal is a cost-effective way to preserve streets by sealing small cracks, protecting the pavement from water damage, improving skid resistance and extending the life of existing roadways.
Residents who live on streets scheduled for slurry seal will receive notices on their door from the contractor before work begins.
The project includes portions of the following streets and areas:
- Country Drive Loop
- Maple
- 5th Street
- Ash Avenue
- Willow Avenue
- Seneca Avenue
- Parkwood Drive
- Pickleball Parking Area
- Cabot Street
- Adams Avenue
- Franklin Street
- Madison Avenue
- Monroe Avenue
- Robinson Avenue
- Broadway Avenue
- Pasque Street
- Bluebell Street
- Abbey Road
- Dry Creek Drive
- Lincoln Avenue
- Patron Parkway
- Lancaster Loop
- Brookstone Loop
To help the project move safely and efficiently, residents are asked to:
- Do not park on city streets between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. until work has been completed on your street.
- Watch for temporary “No Parking” signs and follow all posted restrictions.
- Expect brief traffic delays and lane closures while crews are working.
- Fresh slurry seal requires time to cure before vehicles can drive on it. Streets will reopen as soon as the surface is ready.
- Residents will continue to have access to their homes as conditions safely allow, although short delays may occur during the application process.
- Streets Scheduled for Slurry Seal
“This is one of the most effective ways we can protect our investment in city streets,” said Street Superintendent Nick Herricks. “Applying slurry seal helps extend the life of the pavement and delays the need for more expensive reconstruction projects in the future.”
Work schedules are weather-dependent and may change if rain or other conditions delay construction.
