Playoff baseball began for both Pierre Post 8 Varsity and Junior Legion Wednesday afternoon as both looked to pick up a big win in game one of their respective series. Each series is a best-of-three with the varsity eights at home and the juniors on the road at Aspen Park.
The varsity team looked like they were going to hold off the Watertown Arrows after taking a 4-3 lead into the fifth. Will Danburg, Tripp Lindekugel and Bridger Babcock all combining for two hits each. However, the Arrows were able to scrap together two runs and take a 5-4 lead into the final few innings. Post 8 was unable to string together the hits and runs needed and dropped game one by that final score.
Junior Legion brought an eight-game winning streak into their series with Brandon Valley, but were dinged early in the first inning when Brandon posted four runs to take a commanding lead. Pierre would slowly chip away with runs in the second, third and fifth, but they could not find that big inning they were accustomed to over the last few weeks. Tucker Swenson had one of his better games at the plate going 3-4, but it would not be enough as Pierre would fall 6-3 and fall behind in the series.
Both teams will hope to keep their playoff series alive today and force decisive game threes which would be played later today. The varsity eights are scheduled to play at noon while the junior eights will play their road playoff game at 11:00 AM CT.
