When Pierre Governor Soccer looks back on July 2026, it will be one of the most prosperous months their program has seen in years. Two of their stars in graduate Jasmine Jost and rising junior Lexie Hillmer both won national championships with their club teams earlier this month, and tomorrow, Governor goalkeeper Emlyn Swanson, offensive attackers Myah Fravel, Aubrey Fischer, midfielder Cameron Larson and defenders Josephine Wurtz and Brittney Sargent can add another national championship trophy to the mantle.
While none of these three are sporting Governors gear in these matches, they are still representing their school and high school team while they play on the biggest stage. With that, all three are adding continued legitimacy to the Pierre girls soccer program that continues on an upward trajectory year after year.
Swanson, who is playing with the South Dakota United Spirit team this summer, has made the Championship game of the US Club soccer National Cup. The SD Spirit will play for a National Championship Friday at 9:30 AM CT in Denver in the U16 Premier division.
The team went 2-0-1 in pool play at this National Cup and will take on Desert Communities Soccer Club out of Victorville California.
In pool play, they tied a team hailing from Arlington Virginia 2-2, followed that up with a win over a team from Athens, Georgia 4-1, and lastly beat a team central Iowa 3-2. Emlyn had a PK save among several saves this week. Also from Pierre, Myah Fravel scored on a PK, and Aubrey Fischer registered a goal. Cameron Larson has also played well in the midfield, while Josephine Wurtz and Brittney Sargent have played excellent defense in front on Emlyn Swanson in goal.
The team qualified by winning the Midwest Regional Cup in Chicago in June where they went 5-0, beating teams from Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota. Stay tuned for the final score from tomorrow’s championship match here on DRGnews.com.
