Campgrounds and boat ramps operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers at the Big Bend Project at Fort Thompson reopened today (Thurs.) after being closed to protect against the further spread of COVID-19.
The reopening includes Left Tailrace Campground.
For safety reasons, the Corps is asking everyone to follow social distancing guidelines and abide by all signs posted in the parks. The Corps is working in partnership with the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe and Lower Brule Sioux Tribe to protect the communities from the spread of COVID-19. For the protection of all involved, the tribes kindly request visitors do not stop in their communities. Please purchase snacks, bait and other items at your home locations. Firewood and ice will be available for purchase in the campground.
In addition, the Corps is asking visitors to limit the use of campground comfort stations to one person at a time; playgrounds will remain closed for the season; and all hydroelectric dam power plant tours have been cancelled.
