Native American Day honors the traditions and accomplishments of the various Native American tribes. The Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre has a variety of displays to help people learn more about the Native American culture, traditions and history of the tribes in South Dakota. The Center is open today (Oct. 10, 2022) from 1 PM to 4:30 PM CST on October 10 in honor of Native American Day.
Admission to the museum is free for all children, South Dakota residents and members of the State Historical Society.
Also today, the Smithsonian Institute, is offering a program called Indigenous Peoples’ Day: Transformative Teaching where you can hear from Native youth who are incorporating Indigenous voices in K–12 education and promoting inclusive conversations in our nation’s classrooms.
