“Roadeo” course tests skills of SDDOT snowfighter team

There was a roadeo of a different kind earlier this week (Oct. 12, 2022) in Pierre.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation held its State Finals Snowfighter Roadeo, pitting the top five snowplow drivers from each region of the state against each other in a friendly contest to see who scored the highest.

3rd place winner Curt Theisen, a tow plow operator in Sioux Falls, says there was barely inches of room for the snowplows to move in parts of the course.

Theisen, who’s been a snowfighter for the state for 15 years, scored 1600 out of a possible 2000 points.

This year’s SDDOT State Finals Snowfighter Roadeo champion is Nathan Loecker from the Yankton area. He scored 1700 out of a possible 2000 points. Second place was Keith Palo from the Haiti area scoring 1665 points. Again, Theisen was 3rd with 1600 points. In fourth place was Sam Spence from Kadoka and in 5th was Luke Neville of Philip.
