BURNSVILLE, MN – Former Pierre Governor goalkeeper Mackenzie Rath of Minnesota State Mankato has been named as the 2022 Northern Sun Goalkeeper of the Year.
Rath, a senior, has 10 shutouts this season for the Mavericks, who have reached the semifinal round of the NSIC tournament. In 1,683 minutes of play, Rath has allowed only nine goals and made 70 saves. She was named as the league’s goalkeeper of the week three times.
In 2021, Rath was a second-team all-conference player and had 11 shutouts.
Rath was part of both Governor AA girls soccer state championship teams in 2017 and 2018 and was part of the Governors’ 11AA state championship football team in 2018, kicking 16 of 22 extra points and two field goals. Rath became the first female player to score in a South Dakota high school football championship game in the Governors’ 38-20 win over Huron.
Minnesota State, ranked 12th in the nation in Division II, will play Minot State Friday in the NSIC semifinal in Mankato.
