Accumulating snow and strong winds are causing visibility issues across central and western South Dakota today (Dec. 15, 2022) as a major winter storm continues its slow progress from west to east across the region.
The storm started moving in on Monday and state Department of Transportation Pierre Region Engineer Jason Humphrey says with stretches of both Interstate 90 and Interstate 29 closed, people are venturing out on secondary highways.
Humphrey says logistically, it’s “really difficult” to close state highways.
Where the storm is still active, Humphrey says the safest thing for people to do is to stay home.
Humphrey says they know people are getting restless.
