ST. PAUL, Minn. — South Dakota State junior Zeke Mayo connected on a jumper with six seconds remaining to complete a comeback and stun St. Thomas in an 81-80 victory on Thursday (Jan. 11, 2024) in St. Paul, Minnesota. Mayo scored his game-high 25 points on 7 of 12 shooting. He made all three of his 3-point attempts and was 8-for-9 at the free throw line. Mayo also had a game-high nine rebounds and three steals, as well as three assists. Joining Mayo in double digits for SDSU were Luke Appel and William Kyle III as each scored 13 points. The matchup pitted the two remaining unbeatens in Summit League men’s basketball, and though early in the league slate, lived up to expectations. SDSU improved to 9-8 overall and 2-0 in Summit League action, St. Thomas fell to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in Summit League play. The Jackrabbits travel to Denver for their next game on Saturday.
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team used a hot second half to beat St. Thomas 75-55 Thursday night (Jan. 11, 2024) at Frost Arena. The Jacks trailed by seven at halftime but pushed for a 27-point swing over the final 20 minutes. Madison Mathiowetz and Brooklyn Meyer put up 19 points apiece to lead the Jackrabbits. Amber Scalia led the Tommies with 20 points. SDSU improves to 10-5 on the season and 2-0 in the Summit League. St. Thomas – which entered the game with five straight wins – moves to 10-7 on the year and 2-1 in conference action. SDSU hosts Denver on Saturday.
