OMAHA, Neb. –The University of South Dakota fell to Omaha 91-84 Thursday night (Feb. 15, 2024) in Omaha. South Dakota was led by 22 points from Bostyn Holt and 20 points from Lahat Thioune. Holt shot 61.5 percent from the field and Thioune shot 69.2 percent from the floor. Kaleb Stewart added 18 points on 70 percent shooting and Paul Bruns rounded out the double-figure scoring with 14 points and four three pointers. Bruns’ first three-pointer of the game put him above the 1,000 career point threshold and he is now the 33rd Coyote to join the 1,000 point club. Omaha was led by Frankie Fidler who scored a game-high 23 points. All five Maverick starters reached double-digits and all seven Mavericks who checked in to the game scored. South Dakota fell to 3 and 8 in Summit League play and 10 and 16 overall.
VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women’s basketball fell to Omaha 77-67 on Thursday night (Feb. 15, 2024) and in the process broke a 13 game losing streak to the Coyotes South Dakota was led by fourth-year junior guard Kendall Holmes’ game-high 21 points. Sophomore forward Carley Duffney pitched in 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while fellow sophomore center Natalie Mazurek added 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Grace Larkins pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds with eight on the offensive glass. The Mavericks put four players in double figures led by forward Morgann Gardner’s 17 points. Kennedi Grant added 16 points, Grace Cave had 14 and Aaliyah Stanley finished with 11. South Dakota outrebounded Omaha 48-29. The Coyotes pulled down 20 offensive boards but converted just 13 second-chance points in the game. With the setback the Coyotes fell to 6-5 in Summit League play and are 17-9 overall.
