MINNEAPOLIS – He’s being called a “steal.” He is North Carolina first baseman Aaron Sabato, whom the Twins selected with the 27th overall pick Wednesday in the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft. Sabato is a sophomore, but he is 21 and had a huge freshman season for the Tar Heels in 2019, hitting a program-record 18 homers while hitting .343 and slugging .453. He is compared to New York Mets’ slugger Pete Alonso, and Twins’ scouting director Sean Johnson was quoted by mlb.com as saying, “If he turns out like Pete Alonso, obviously, we’re thrilled with that, picking at the back of the first round. Any version of Pete Alonso, we’ll take.”
