Earlier this morning, the Vikings signed veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore to try and sure up the secondary after an historically unlucky preseason. The move comes after a week full of injury news including first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy and number two receiver Jordan Addison. Earlier this preseason, Vikings cornerback Khyree Jackson tragically lost his life in a car accident leaving the Vikings with a decision to make.
Minnesota and Gilmore agreed to a 1-year, $10 million contract with around $7 million fully guaranteed, sources report. Gilmore will be reuniting with Brian Flores who was Gilmore’s defensive coordinator when the two were in New England.
Gilmore, who turns 34 next month, recently had surgery on a torn labrum. He was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 with the Patriots. In a career that has seen him play for five teams, he has 31 interceptions in 165 career games.
