Beginning Tuesday (May 27, 2025), work is scheduled to begin on several bridges near Winner.
Work at each location will consist of concrete removal and repair of the existing bridge decks followed by a low slump dense concrete overlay. The bridge over Dog Ear Creek will also consist of new approach slabs and concrete paving off the east end of the bridge. Work will be done in phases with one lane of the bridges being worked on at a time while the other lane remains open to traffic. Traffic at each location will be controlled by temporary traffic signals or stop signs. An 18-foot width restriction will be enforced on all bridges located on Highway 18 and an 11-foot width restriction will be enforced on the bridge over Moccasin Creek (Highway 49 near Hamill).
Traffic control is scheduled to be installed on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the bridge over Cottonwood Creek and the bridge over Big Hollow Creek. On Thursday (May 29, 2025) traffic control will also be installed at the bridge over Dog Ear Creek.
The repair areas will be the following bridges:
- Bridge over Cottonwood Creek located seven miles west of Winner on U.S. Highway 18;
- Bridge over Big Hollow Creek located three miles west of Winner on Highway 18;
- Bridge over Dog Ear Creek located on the western edge of Winner on Highway 18;
- Bridge over the West Branch of Thunder Creek located one and one-half miles southeast of Winner on Highway 18;
- Bridge over Thunder Creek located three and one-half miles southeast of Winner on Highway 18; and
- Bridge over Moccasin Creek located on S.D. Highway 49 near Hamill.
- The contractor expects the work to last up to five weeks per phase and work on the bridges is expected to be completed in November 2025.
- The prime contractor on the $3.1 million project is Industrial Builders, Inc. of Fargo, ND. The overall project completion date is September 2026.
