Delores Bertsch, 93, died Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center, Aberdeen, SD.
Delores Katherine Beck, daughter of Martha M. (Bertsch)and Arthur H. Beck, was born June 4, 1932 at Eureka, SD. She was brought up in Eureka and attended Eureka School, graduating with the EHS Class of 1950. She married Harry Bertsch at the Eureka UCC Church. The couple first lived near Harry’s homestead close to Ashley, ND in McIntosh Co, SD. In September 1955 they moved to a farm nine miles east of Eureka where they farmed small grains and had livestock until 1991 when Harry was forced to retire due to poor health. Harry entered an Aberdeen nursing home in 1994 and Delores moved to Aberdeen where she lived the rest of her life. Harry died October 13, 1999. Delores married Johnnie Schnabel September 30, 2001 at First Baptist Church in Eureka. Delores was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eureka and, after moving to Aberdeen, joined Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, canning, and baking a great kuchen.
Delores is survived by one son, Gordon (Diane) Bertsch of Watertown, SD; two daughters—DeLana Bertsch of Aberdeen and Roxane (Dan) Marshall of Agar, SD; three grandchildren—Toby (Megan) Bertsch, Brittney (Alex) Tokar, and Jade (Cody) Shoultz; five great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Harry, she was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Martha; two brothers—Ervin Beck and Helmuth Beck; one sister, Floreine Wiederich; and four nieces and nephews—Lynn Tarter, Robert Wiedrich, Rosanne Rennell, and Duane Beck.
Delores’s funeral will be livestreamed on the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka, led by Pastor Pat Russell. Interment follows at the Eureka Cemetery. Visitation commences one hour prior to the funeral. Recorded vocals will be “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”.
Casketbearers will be Toby Bertsch of Brandon, SD; Alex Tokar of Princeton, MN; Cody Shoultz of Tyndall, SD; Kirby Wiedrich of Rapid City, SD; Lowell Aman of Watertown; and Tom Schnabel of Eureka.
Services are in care of Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka.
