The Pierre Volunteer Fire Department will conduct its annual fire hose testing Wednesday (Sept. 10, 2025) from 4:30-7:30pm.
Testing will take place on North Arthur Street, behind the Pierre Sports Center. To allow crews to safely complete the work, North Arthur Street will be closed to through traffic during the testing period.
Fire Chief Ian Paul says the annual hose testing is a national safety requirement to ensure that the department’s equipment is functioning properly and ready for use in an emergency. He says he’s “really thankful for our volunteer firefighters. Their hard work, from emergencies to safety checks, makes a big difference for Pierre.”
The City of Pierre and the Fire Department thank the public for their cooperation and patience as firefighters complete this important safety check. A second round of hose testing is scheduled for Sept. 25, from 4:30-7:30pm to finish testing any hoses that are left.
