One of the main reasons LifeServe Blood Center invested in a brick-and-mortar donor center in Pierre is because of the incredible support shown for the Tyler Wilcox Memorial Guns n’ Hoses Blood Drive over the past 20 years.
The 21st annual event will be held Dec. 3-5, 2025, in Fort Pierre and Pierre and LifeServe Public Relations and Marketing Director Tim Paluch says the deadline to donate blood and become eligible again in time to donate during Guns n’ Hoses is Oct. 6, which is this coming Monday.
Depending on whether you’re donating whole blood, double red cells, plasma or platelets, Paluch says a donation can last anywhere from five days to “a few weeks.”
During Guns n’ Hoses, blood donors get a t-shirt, win door prizes and are treated to a larger than normal selection of snacks to help them refresh afterward. Paluch says while those types of things are fun to, he wants blood donors to know that they are appreciated all year round.
Despite having a brick and mortar location in Pierre, LifeServe will continue to have occasional mobile blood drives at some of the traditional locations in Pierre and Fort Pierre. Mobile blood drives will continue as usual in the surrounding communities.
Until LifeServe is able to staff consistent hours at the Blood Donor Center in Pierre (1908 N. Garfield Avenue in the Larkspur Landing building), the best thing to do is to make an appointment in advance. To do that, visit www.lifeservebloodcenter.org/schedule or call 1-800-287-4903.
