Cathy Brockamp was born on February 3rd, 1947 in Mobridge, South Dakota to Ora Jean (Juelfs) and William G. Hardcastle and was raised in Mobridge as the oldest of 8 kids in a loud and rambunctious household that included not only her siblings, but cousins, aunts, uncles, neighborhood kids, and for a time, a monkey named JoJo who loved only her, who made much mischief in his time with the Hardcastle family. Cathy delighted in whimsy, the mysteries of the world, and any item that had silly feet. She was known to throw a silly hat party and loved to share a cup of tea with her loved ones.
After graduating from Mobridge High School in 1965, she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, eventually finishing her degree in her 40s in Washington. She moved to Seattle in 1966 where she met her husband, Jim Brockamp. They were married for 49 years and raised three kids together (Stephany, Jamie, and Alexa) prior to Jim’s passing in 2016.
Cathy was a loving and dedicated mother who kept a blog called “Heirlooms” detailing her memories and life stories. While living in the Seattle area, she often fondly remembered her horse, Skipper, who would nicker at her bedroom window in the mornings. Cathy loved her siblings dearly and was devoted to her mother. She had many beloved pets over the years, including cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, horses, and a menagerie of birds, but she would always think of Skipper when she wanted peacefulness, and Jojo when she wanted entertainment. In her retirement she moved back to Mobridge and loved to sit on the porch with her siblings, talking and laughing late into the night.
Cathy is survived by her three children, Stephany Brockamp of Mobridge, SD, Jamie (Denise) Brockamp of Goodyear, AZ., and Alexa (David) Hoggatt of Bremerton, WA., four grandchildren, Keeley (Mason) Cerrillo of Lacey, WA, Katie Brockamp, and Jared Brockamp of Goodyear, AZ, and Alluna Hoggatt of Bremerton, WA.
