Tuesday’s winter storm brought big flakes with wet, heavy snow. The system that prompted a Winter Storm Warning to start at 9:00 a.m. Friday (11/28) morning brought a small amount of snow. Only about 1.5 inches were recorded at the KOLY Studios on 3rd Street in Mobridge. Roads were passable and in decent winter driving condition in the Mobridge area. However the Dewey County Sheriff’s Office issued a Travel Advisory yesterday that included the entire county. Some comments on Facebook suggested the Winter Storm Warning should have been cancelled late yesterday afternoon. There was a second system on its way and that system packed more of a punch bringing an additional 3.25 inches of snow to the Mobridge area for a total of 4.75″ at KOLY. Safe Travel USA SD – 511 reported slippery roads with reduced visibility and travel speeds in the immediate Mobridge area. Roads were snow covered with reduced visibility west of the Missouri River. Scattered slippery spots, finger and pillow drifts were reported on Hwy 12 east of The Bridge City. County and Township roads were drifted and snow covered as well. The SD DOT plows were out this morning (11/29) at 6:00 a.m. clearing the Hwy 12 eastbound lanes first. The City of Mobridge started clearing roads early this morning starting on Main Street. The Winter Storm Warning will remain in place until Noon. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Noon – 3:00 p.m. CST today.
