The former equestrian coach at South Dakota State University in Brookings has been indicted on one felony count of Grand Theft for using taxpayer resources for her personal use.
38 year old Kamerra Brown of Brookings was indicted last week (Jan. 8, 2026). She accused is of using SDSU resources to pay boarding and vet bills for her personal horses for about a year. The total value of the theft is estimated to be between $5,000 and $100,000.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, if convicted.
The case is being investigated and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office’s Public Integrity Unit.
Brown is presumed innocent under the U.S. Constitution.
