Sioux Falls hosted huge crowds for day two of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays as it normally does for this event. 3,000 plus middle and high school students competed in this weekend’s meet making it one of the most special sporting events of the year.
Representing Pierre in the Special Olympics heat, Kaden Cumbow took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.21, just edging out Hamlin’s Isaac Sheehan who ran a 14.83. Aberdeen Central’s Dannica Sheets comfortably took first place in the women’s Special Olympics 100 meter.
In the SMR men’s 1600m relay, Tyce Gropper, Teagan Gropper, David McKinley and Baylor Burns from Philip took first place with a time of 3:36.01 putting the Scotties on the board. Honor Vernon , Jetta McDaniel , Karlie Eisenbraun , Mayzie McDaniel ran a good race int eh 4x800m relay to take fourth. Another great finish for Philip came in the 4×400 which saw Kale Peterson , Honor Vernon , Mayzie McDaniel , Drew Terkildsen finish second behind Colman-Egan’s quartet.
In the men’s 4×400 relay, Philip also took second place as David McKinley , Creston Burns , Jack Peterson , Baylor Burns finished with a 3:31.23. Tyce Gropper , Teagan Gropper , Owen Terkildsen , David McKinley took fourth place in the 4×200 making for a good day in Scottie track. It was hard to look throughout the leaderboards and not see a Scottie logo lingering somewhere.
