Spring was in the air as multiple Central South Dakota schools continued their budding golf season. 85 golfers from 12 different schools would certainly make for a long, but exciting day on the course.
On the women’s side, Selby Area comfortably took first winning by 15 strokes ahead of their competitors. Mobridge-Pollock also had a nice day with their squad of golf finishing second, 11 strokes ahead of third place Warner. Eureka would finish in a close fourth finishing just three strokes behind Warner.
In individual play, Molly Simon of Ipswich and Taryn Hettick from Selby battled it out back and forth throughout the day. Simon would finish in first by a single stroke shooting a very impressive 84. Selby’s Braylon Baumann would secure two of their own in the top five joining Hettick with a 90 securing herself a tie for fourth.
For Mobridge-Pollock, the Tigers would also see two finishers within the top 8 thanks to Claire Heil and Avery Schlomer. Heil shot 90 and tied with Baumann and Schlomer finished with a 94.
The boys team leaderboard was topped by Edmunds Central who finished 23-over as a team. Timber Lake finished in second and were 11 shots behind Central. Much like their girl’s team, Eureka boys gave a run at Timber Lake and finished just four shots behind them in sole third. The Sully Buttes leaderboard took fourth with a +43. Impressively enough, only six strokes separated fourth and seventh place. Gettysburg taking fifth, Mobridge coming in sixth and Warner coming in seventh.
On the individual side, Tigers William Blankartz had the round of the day shooting a two-over 72, taking first by four strokes behind a stacked pack of golfers.
Behind Blankartz, there was a three-way tie for second place between Eureka’s Joshua Fargher, Sully Buttes’ Gavin Colson and Edmunds Central Seth Hettick who all shot six-over. Harrison Beyers of Central finished fifth with a 78, and Trent Beyers finished in a tie for sixth with Timber Lake’s Hadley Thompson. All of that meant Central finished with three players in the top 7.
