PIERRE, S.D. — It was a special night to end the league bowling season for Jason Hapney of Pierre Wednesday at the Lariat Lanes. Hapney, who averages 215 in the Oahe Co-Ed League, put together scores of 202-300-300 for an outstanding 802 series. Not only were the two perfect games the first ever for Hapney, but it was the first time a bowler in Pierre had ever achieved perfection in back-to-back games.
The milestone 800 series was also a first individually for Hapney. To give the first-ever feat some perspective, Pierre’s lone bowling center has been in business since the 1960’s, and league bowling in the Capital City dates back much earlier in previous bowling alleys. Perfect games have been much more common over the past 20 years or so, but while some have come close, Hapney is the first in Pierre history to put two 300 games together in succession.
This marks just the 15th time in South Dakota league history this accomplishment has been achieved. Here was the final roll of the historic run:
