
PIERRE, SD – Daniel Wells Boyd, 83, of Pierre, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 9, 2026. A Funeral Service will be held on May 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre. With burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. Born on February 9, 1943, in Pierre, Daniel spent his life deeply rooted in the community he cherished. He was the oldest son of Stanton Wells Boyd and June Charlotte Exe Boyd. He graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre in 1961 and went on to attend Northern State University. His dedication to service and education led him to a distinguished career as the Director of Services to the Blind and Visually Impaired at the South Dakota State Library. Through his work, Daniel began the Braille program at the State Penitentiary, where inmates created braille textbooks for the visually impaired. He believed strongly in helping increase literacy for all, also creating talking books and providing learning and literacy materials for impaired learners across the state and even country. He made a lasting impact on countless lives by advocating for accessibility and supporting those with visual impairments.
On August 9, 1977, Daniel married Sally Ann Bowers in Rapid City, South Dakota. Their nearly five decades of marriage were marked by love, partnership, and a shared commitment to their family. Together they raised five children: Dena Marie Boyd of Pierre; Kea Warne (Revi) of Pierre; Amy Morrison of Pierre; Jason Boyd (Stacey) of Rapid City; and Brandon Boyd (Steph) of Pierre.
Daniel was a proud grandfather to Colton, Coby, Conner, Cayne, Carson, Karlie, Ryan, Brin, Brit, Keegan, and Brenna. He also delighted in being a great-grandfather to Daniella. His family brought him immense joy and were a source of pride throughout his life.
He is also survived by his brothers Ron Boyd (Marsha), Rick Boyd (Nancy), Jerry Boyd (Lynnae), sister-in-law Kate Boyd, and his constant canine companion, Callie. Daniel’s legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched during his lifetime.
A man of integrity and dedication, Daniel will be remembered for his contributions to his community and his unwavering devotion to those he loved. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
Proceeded in death by his father Stan, mother June and brother Don. Also proceeded by his in-laws Kelso and Faith, sister-in-law Betty, and many faithful pets throughout the years.
