Hollister Field and Riggs High held the Capital City Qualifier Tuesday afternoon hosting schools from across the Central South Dakota region. It was a warm and windy day that saw some of the area’s top athletes perform well, here’s some of the results from the qualifier.
The schools that competed were Aberdeen Central, Crow Creek, Huron, Jones County, Sully Buttes, Stanley County, McLaughlin, Mobridge-Pollock, Hoven, Herreid-Selby Area, Gettysburg, Crazy Horse, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, and Bison.
100m:
For the boys, Pierre took five of the top six spots with Karson Walti finishing first, George Rapp taking second, Bison’s Kyle Stadler splitting up the Govs taking third, followed by Pierre’s Jerren Deal, Will Danburg and Lincoln Dilges.
On the girls side, Breanna Jochim of Herreid-Selby Area took first followed by Jones County’s BreAna Aske just .05 behind. Even closer, Huron’s Ava Wambach took third just .01 behind Aske.
200m:
Pierre’s Charlee Williams-Smith shined again for the Govs taking first with a time of 25.15. Aske posted another good finish in second for the Coyotes and Mobridge’s eight grade speedster Bentley Bauer took third. Jochim had another nice finish taking fourth.
For the boys, Pierre’s Danburg took first with a time of 22.94 followed by Cheyenee-Eagle Butte’s Jayden Taken Alive who took second with a time of 22.98.
400m:
Jayden Taken Alive beat out three top-five finishes from Pierre taking first with a time of 53.29. In second, third and fifth was George Rapp, Jayden Brandt and Ben Maxwell from Pierre. Stanley county’s Eddie Duffy took fourth with a time of 55.54.
In the girls event, Aske took another top spot for Jones County with a time of 59.66, the only finish in under a minute.
800m:
Jagger Gardener of Pierre barely beat out Xavier Sanchez-Gonzalez of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte for the first and second finishes. Bison’s Riley Lawhead took third with a time of 2:10.87. Pierre’s Tryton Parmely took fourth.
The Pierre girls took two of the top three spots with Gwen Richter clearing second by almost two seconds with a time of 2:26.07, and Josephine Wurtz taking third with a time of 2:32.21. Sandwiched between was Faith Heil of Mobridge who finished with a time of 2:28.32. Herreid-Selby Area’s Katie Allbee took fourth and Gettysburg’s Paige Ahlemeier took fifth.
1600m:
Emery Larson of Pierre had a comfortable first place finish with a time of 5:27.17 while her Governor teammate Devyn Van Roekel took third. In second, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte’s Aubree Miner took second. Herreid-Selby Area and Gettysburg took the 4-8 spots in the event.
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte locked up the 2-4 spots for the Braves with Jackson Taken Alive taking second, and Xavier and Demetrius Sanchez-Gonzalez taking third and fourth. Pierre’s Caleb Morries took first with a time of 4:27.76.
3200m:
Jackson Taken Alive saw another top finish placing first with a time of 10:20.16, Herreid-Selby Area’s Gavin Hirsch took second about five seconds behind Taken Alive.
Gettysburg’s Jaycee Stevens took first beating out Landree LaMont from Bison by almost 15 seconds.
110m & 300m Hurdles:
Lincoln Dilges finished first for the boys in the 110m while Huron’s Teagan Lien took first in the 300m with a time of 43.43 followed by Aberdeen Central’s Cooper Hepperle and Jordan McGhee.
In the girl’s hurdles, Hoven’s Dannika Kaup placed first with a 15.80, finishing ahead of Pierre’s Brooke Hansen by .04. In the 300m, Mobridge’s Jayda Thompson took first by over four seconds ahead of Aberdeen Central’s Lainey Lamont in second. Pierre’s Brooke Hansen and Jaclyn Richter took third and fourth for the Govs.
4×100 Relay:
A friendly river rivalry saw Pierre and Stanley County boys finish first and second in the event. Pierre’s Carter Schiefelbein, Porter Hunsley, Will Danburg and Karson Walti took first with a time of 44.47. The Buffaloes Jack Deal, Landon Bame, Paxton Deal and Brendon Bothwell placed second with a time of 45.55.
Pierre girls relay team of Elliot Bertsch, Maddie Merrill, Brooke Hansen and Allyson Bauer placed first with a time of 51.36 ahead of Gettysburg’s Skyler Oster, Beth Seurer, Finlee Heien and Emma Schlachter who finished second with a time of 52.81.
4×200 Relay:
Pierre girls saw another first place finish with Josephine Wurtz, Bertsch, Ellen Hart and Bauer taking the top spot with a time of 1:48.13. Mobridge’s Jacy Netterville, Tegan Konold, Lindy Binger and Jayda Thompson took second with a time of 1:50.88.
For the boys, it was one and two for the Govs again led by Rapp, Walti, Hunsley and Schiefelbein finishing first followed by Danburg, Corde Austin, Hayden Northrup and Copper Terwilliger. Sully Buttes Hudson Barber, Carson Mercer, Jace Heath and Zack Weinheimer took third with a time of 1:37.87.
4×400 Relay:
The Govs stayed on top in this relay as well with Hayden Northrup, Dilges, Caleb Morris and Schiefelbein finishing with a first place time of 3:29.45. Stanley County took second with a time of 3:47.01 and a team made up of Bothwell, Ryland Magee, Paxton Deal and Justin Trebbe.
For the girls, Pierre’s A & B heats took first and third with Gettysburg coming in second. Reed Curry, Ellen hart, Van Roekel and Williams-Smith took first for the Govs while Jaelynn Muldoon, Harper Schaefer, Allison DeMers and Marena Buschbom took third. For the Lady Battlers it was Heien, Paige and Jadyn Ahlemeier along with Emma Schlacther to take second.
4×800 Relay:
Only two quartets competed for the girls, but it was Jones County’s Aubrey Tucker, Molly Nix, Julia Kinsley and Addison Rankin taking first with a time of 11:06.99.
For the boys, there were only three teams to compete with Pierre taking the two top spots. First secured by Colt Brewer, Camden Lamb, Henry Clayton and Matthew Eckert taking first.
SMR 1600m:
Stanley County’s Paxton Deal, Landon Bame, Brendon Bothwell and Ryland Magee took first for the boys while Gettysburg’s Skyler Oster, Beth Serurer, Finlee Heien and Emma Schlachter took first in the girls event.
Shot Put:
Huron’s Carter Porisch finished with a first place distance of 48-01 followed by Stanley County’s Trevor Caldwell who placed second with a distance of 46-03. Sully Buttes Kadyn Westergren finished third with a distance of 46-01.
Pierre’s Sorrinne Ekle finished first with a distance of 35-04.75 while her teammate Faith Baumberger finished third with a distance of 33-07.75. Huron’s Alyse Davis took second with a distance of 35-01.50.
Discus:
Elke and Baumberger finished second and third behind Isabelle Kremer of HUron who threw a distance of 110-10 (Ekle with a close second throwing 108-10.
Pierre’s Cactus Korkow finished first by a measurable distance of 153-03 ahead of Huron’s Anderson Porisch (137-09) and Carter Porisch (136-07).
Javelin:
Jett Yackley of Sully Buttes took the top spot with a distance of 153-07 followed by Stanley County’s Jace Hand (150-06) and Keaten Metzler (142-03).
In the girls Javelin, Maggie Dowling of Jones County took the top finish with a distance of 107-11.
High Jump:
Corde Austin of Pierre leaped over the competition with a first place height of 6-04 followed by Mobridge’s Jesse Schneider who jumped 5-10 and Titan Eriksen of Jones County who jumped 5-08.
For the girls, Pierre took three of the top five spots thanks to Amara Dell, Sophie Hackett and Hannah Eads. Dell jumped 5-00, Hackett at 4-10 and Eads at 4-06. In second was Jones County’s Addison Rankin who tied Hackett’s height. Fourth was Cheyenne-Eagle Butte’s Alisa Eberhard who leaped 4-08.
Pole Vault:
Aberdeen Central took the top spots on both the girls and boys side. Jaidyn Forsyth reaching a height of 10-00 and Evan Sichmeller with a height of 12-06.
Long Jump:
Corde Austin took another first place finish in the long jump reaching a distance of 21-10. Close behind was Stanley County’s Paxton Deal who jumped 20-06.
For the girls, Bentley Bauer of Mobridge finsihed first with a distance of 16-06.25, barely edging out Coyotes Aske who reached 16-05.00. In third, Herreid-Selby Area’s Jochim reached 16-03.00.
Triple Jump:
Huron’s Leon Waldner took first with a distance of 42.04 head of Mobridge’s Trayden Stambach who leaped 41-10. Pierre’s Corde Austin took third with a distance of 41-07.
In the girls event, Pierre and Huron flip-flopped the 1-6 placements with Huron taking first, third and fifth and Pierre taking second fourth and sixth. In first was Allyson Trujillo-Cordova with a distance of 35-00.50. Second was Peyton Dillman with a distance of 34-01.00.
