Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Kosters, 102, of Mobridge will be at 10 AM, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selby. Burial will be at Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 6 PM with a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 PM Friday at the church. Irene passed away Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.

Irene Frances Raba, daughter of Andrew and Theresa (Bertha) Raba was born August 21, 1923 at Selby, SD. Irene attended eight years of school at West Spring Valley Country School. She married John Kosters on June 5, 1945, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selby.

Irene passed away peacefully surrounded be the love of her family. She shared a devoted life with her husband, John, and together were blessed to raise eight children in a home grounded in faith, love and hard work.

She was happiest in the simple joys of life, tending her chickens, working in her large garden, and caring for those around her. Her home was a place where everyone felt welcomed. Irene taught her children and grandchildren the importance of faith, family and trusting God through all seasons of life. She touched many lives with grace and compassion.

Irene was preceded in death by husband, John, sons, Lawrence and Lester, son-in-law, Allen Mertz, daughter-in-law, Julie (Lawrence), parents, Andrew and Theresa, sisters, Theresa (Kosters), Anna (Kosters), Katherine (Kindel), brothers, Martin, Gabriel, Ladislaus, Paul, Phillip and Mark.

Irene is survived by daughters, Jane Mertz, Marie (Richard) Mueller, Beverly (Rodney) Ruzsa, Geralyn (Marvin) Vandervelden, daughter-in-law, Janet (Lester), sons, Laverne (Paula), Lyle (Treni), 22 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 21, great-great grandchildren.
