The Walworth County Commissioners passed a motion at their May 20th meeting to create “voting centers” in Mobridge, Selby, and Akaska after hearing from Walworth County Auditor Kim Dills regarding the lack of election workers for all the precincts.
The commission approved having those voting centers in place for the November 2026 election.
Highway
Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan wants to transfer the LeBeau Road from a primary to a secondary road.
Hannan hopes to have the resolution ready for the commissioners at the next meeting.
Planning & Zoning
The commissioners approved a variance for David Kulm, who is moving a single wide.
Jail
Commissioner Duane Mohr has spoken with Dean Marske of HKG Architects to cease all operations on the jail project until further notice. Mohr said that Marske will inform Carlson Construction of the same.
Register of Deeds
Walworth County Register of Deeds Brenda DeToy told the board she and her deputy benefited from two recent training sessions in Pierre for the new South Dakota Vital Records program that goes live on July 1st, and she gave her April report.
Landfill
Commissioner Mohr did not yet have stats from last week’s Walworth County Clean-up Days, but his April Landfill report was positive.
Auditor
County Auditor Dills’ April report was one penny off.
Also at Wednesday’s (May 20th) commission meeting:
- Liquor licenses were approved for Bridge City Marina & Resort, New Evarts Resort, and the Hoven Country Club;
- Discussion was held regarding a new computer server;
- Discussion was held regarding a recent invoice for repair work on the Courthouse Lift, which continues to break down. Walworth County States Attorney Sarah Malsom will contact the AEL company;
- And due to the June 2nd election, the June 3rd commission meeting will move to Thursday, June 4th.
