For the fourth time ever and for the third year in a row, the Pierre T.F. Riggs High School Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter has been recognized as the South Dakota Tri-M Chapter of the Year by the National Association for Music Education.
In 2022-23, the Riggs Tri-M chapter was named the National Tri-M Chapter of the Year, one of the highest recognitions a Tri-M chapter can receive.
Riggs High School Director of Bands Gage Ruhlman says Tri-M is an honor society centered around music. He says students are selected not only for musical achievement, but also for academic excellence, leadership, character and service to their school and community.
Ruhlman says at its heart, Tri-M exists to develop student leaders who use music as a way to serve others and positively impact their school and community. He says the chapter works throughout the year to support the music department, mentor younger students, organize service projects, assist with school events, promote music advocacy and give back to the Pierre community through music and volunteerism.
