Lou Ann Wanner, 78, Pierre, SD, died Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center, Eureka, SD.
Lou Ann’s Church service will be livestreamed at the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:30 PM, Monday, August 17, 2026 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Eureka, led by Pastor LuCinda Haak. Burial will be at the Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, NE. Recorded vocals will be “How Great Thou Art” and “I can Only Imagine”; Bearers will be Lou Ann’s son, Vince and Jeff.
Lou Ann Annette Ladner, daughter of Julius and Annetta (Koerner) Ladner, was born at the Eureka Hospital on September 21, 1947. On April 20, 2003, she was baptized in water to proclaim Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. Lou Ann grew up on a farm NE of Eureka along Spring Creek. She graduated with the Eureka High School Class of 1965. She enjoyed being the Art Editor for the school newspaper, an alternate for All-State Chorus, a contestant in the State Poetry Contest, and had parts in various class plays and musicals. On June 6, 1966 Lou Ann married Gordon Frank Doering at the United Church of Hot Springs, SD. In 1967, the young couple relocated to Fremont where they began their career with Life Touch Studios. Two sons were born to this union-Vincent Frank and Jeffrey Allan. On June 20, 1971 Gordon drowned while sailing on Lake North at Columbus, NE. On February 22, 1974, Lou Ann married Bruce Lynn Tompkins at Fremont. They established their home in Salina, KS. A daughter, Teresa Lynn, was born to this union. On September 12, 1979, a divorce dissolved this relationship. On February 29, 1996 Lou Ann married Jimmy Lee Wanner in Mesa, AZ and most of their married life was spent in Eudora, KS. In retirement, the couple relocated to Pierre. Lou Ann enjoyed traveling to see family and friends with the New England fall foliage trip being a highlight, especially whale watching. She also enjoyed staying in touch with family and friends via snail mail, trying new recipes, playing cards and board games, macro photography, helping to plan high school reunions, and following the Sand Hill cranes spring migration though the Platte River near Gibbon, NE. After studying radiology technology at Hutchinson Jr. College in Hutchinson, Kansas, she worked for Salina Family Physicians for 10 years. She retired from Bio Tech X-Ray after 17 years of employment.
Lou Ann is survived by Jimmy, her husband of 30 years; two sons and their families, Vincent (Rebecca) and daughters Audrey and Katherine; and Jeffrey and daughters Veronica and Iris; one daughter Teresa and her family Kiley Anne, Aubrianna (Quintin), Ethan, and Rianne; stepdaughter, Tia (Paul)Hertel Herteland their daughter, Seneca; step-son, Nikki Wanner; four great grandchildren; one sister, Lorelei (Verlin) Jakober and their family; and one brother Robert (Trish) Ladner and their family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Annetta and Julius; and her husband (Gordon).
Services are in care of Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka.
