FAULKTON, SD – Jeffery Allen Bryant, 65, of Faulkton, passed away on August 10, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by hard work, quiet devotion, and an unwavering love for his family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2026, at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Bennett Clough presiding. Burial will follow in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Jeff was born on May 13, 1961, to James and Phyllis (McGee) Bryant. He grew up in Seneca, South Dakota, and graduated from Faulkton High School. It was there that he found the person who would remain by his side throughout his life. On August 10, 1979, Jeff married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, JoDee Barrett.
Jeff and JoDee first made their home in Seneca, where he farmed alongside his dad. In 1982, they moved to Faulkton when Jeff began what would become a 37-year career with the South Dakota Department of Transportation. He took tremendous pride in his work and spent countless hours behind the wheel of a snowplow on cold South Dakota winter days and nights, doing his part to make sure others could safely reach their destinations. Even after retirement, that instinct never left him. He was always watching the weather, and when a storm was coming, his family could count on a phone call from Dad warning them to be careful.
Jeff and JoDee were blessed with three children, Amy, Joshua, and Michael, and raised their family in Faulkton. In 2001, Jeff fulfilled one of his greatest wishes when they purchased their dream acreage just south of town, giving him the opportunity to ranch once again. There were sheep first and later cattle, along with plenty of long days and hard work. For Jeff, every bit of it was worth it. But the greatest joy the farm brought him wasn’t found in the livestock or the work—it was sharing it with his grandchildren. Grandpa’s farm became a place for adventures, lessons, laughter, and memories. He loved nothing more than having his grandchildren there and, perhaps most of all, finding ways to spoil them. The memories they made alongside Grandpa on the farm will be carried with them for the rest of their lives.
Jeff was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. Whether it was rodeo, wrestling, hunting, basketball, or whatever else they loved, he wanted to be there watching and cheering them on. He was also an avid reader and made sure to pass that love along to his grandchildren from the time they were little. Dr. Seuss was a particular favorite, and countless stories were shared with a grandchild tucked close beside him.
Most people knew Jeff as a quiet fellow, a man of few words who never felt the need to be the loudest person in the room. Those who knew him well, however, knew the incredible wit hiding behind that quiet exterior. He loved a great joke and had a gift for delivering a perfectly timed, razor-sharp one-liner.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, JoDee Bryant of Faulkton, SD; his children, Amy (Dale) Miller of Webster, SD, Joshua (Shari) Bryant of Madison, SD, and Michael (Amber) Bryant of Moorhead, MN; and his grandchildren, Teagan (Aaron) Campbell, Tacey Miller, Kennedy Bryant, Houston Bryant, Holden Bryant, and Peyton Bryant. Siblings, Linda Bryant of Faulkton, SD, Terri (Tom) Ortmeier of Hardwick, MN, and Jim (Bobbie Jo) Bryant of Rapid City, SD; sisters-in-law, Dixie (Ed) Flom of Stillwater, MN, Linda (George) Boddy of Warsaw, MO, and Jeanne Toay of Sioux Falls, SD; brotherin-law, Bill (Nancy) Barrett of Watertown, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, James and Phyllis Bryant; his mother-in-law, Beulah Barrett; his father-in-law, Willard Barrett; his nieces, Heidi Boddy, Shelbie Bryant, and Melissa Loken; his nephews, Jamie Loken and Cody Loken; and several aunts and uncles.
