FT. PIERRE, SD – Deanna Edwards, a cherished and loving presence in the lives of many, passed away peacefully, August 19, 2026.
Born on April 21, 1942, in Lead, South Dakota, Deanna was the beloved daughter of Garritt William Dykstra and Minnie May (Giesner) Dykstra. She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Charles Edwards, and her brother, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Deanna’s journey began in the close-knit community of Lead, where her compassionate nature and zest for life were nurtured. She graduated from Lead High School with a heart full of dreams and went on to attend the National Business College, equipping herself with the skills that would serve her throughout her illustrious career.
In December of 1965, Deanna’s life took a beautiful turn when she met Charles Edwards, the love of her life. They were united in marriage on July 23, 1966, marking the beginning of a wonderful journey together. Their union was blessed with two daughters, JoDee and Tamara, who became the center of Deanna’s world.
Deanna’s professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. She contributed her organizational prowess and warm spirit to the Central States Fair from 1967 to 1974, then served as a secretary for Keck/Anderson from 1979 to 1987. Her career culminated at the South Dakota School of Mines, where she worked with distinction from 1987 to 2001, touching the lives of many with her unwavering commitment and kindness.
Outside of work, Deanna found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for crocheting, crafting beautiful pieces that carried her warmth and love. She loved walking, immersing herself in the beauty of nature, and could often be found with a good book in hand, escaping into the worlds crafted by her favorite authors. Perhaps most dear to her heart were the games of cards she played with her grandchildren, moments filled with laughter and love that they will cherish forever.
Deanna’s legacy is one of love, nurturing, and encouragement. Her gentle spirit was a beacon of hope and comfort to her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, JoDee (Quinton) Borchert and Tamara (Justin) Seidel; her grandchildren, Ty (Sharon) Seidel, Paige (Kevin) Sandgren, Erin Jack, Shyanne (Taylor) Dowling, and Raechael (Nick) Wiley; and her great-grandchildren, Lincoln Sandgren, Ryle Seidel, Carson Wiley, Luna Sandgren, Renley Seidel, Camden Wiley, Walker Dowling, and Tessa Wiley.
Each of them carries forward her legacy of love and affection. Deanna’s presence in the lives of those who knew her was a gift. Her family fondly remembers her parting words: “Bye, love ya, see ya,” a simple yet profound reminder of her enduring love and warmth. As we celebrate the life of Deanna Edwards, we hold close the memories of her gentle smile, her loving embrace, and the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.
