The Herreid Selby Area Wolverines held on for a hard-fought 22-19 victory over the Lemmon McIntosh Cowboys in a tightly contested 9 man football matchup Friday Night. Herreid Selby showed resilience and opportunism throughout the game, successfully recovering two onside kicks that proved crucial in maintaining momentum and possession. On defense, Porter Gregg delivered one of the night’s highlight-reel plays with a 94-yard pick-six that swung the energy firmly in the Wolverines’ favor. Offensively, quarterback Thatcher Kihne accounted for significant production through both the air and on the ground. He threw for 72 yards with one interception while adding 82 rushing yards, a touchdown, and a two-point conversion. Running back Porter Gregg powered the ground attack with 131 yards on 19 carries and also contributed 11 receiving yards. Gregg finished with two touchdowns—one of them the long interception return—and was named the Venture Communications Player of the Game. Jordan Thompson had a strong all-around performance, hauling in two receptions for 37 yards while ranking among the team’s leading tacklers on defense.
Lemmon McIntosh kept the game close largely through its efficient passing attack. The Cowboys completed 9 of 14 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Maxwell Anderson threw for 164 yards and two scores while adding 22 yards on the ground. He distributed the ball effectively to several targets, including top receivers Atticus Yalowizer (57 yards), Will Penfield (53 yards and a touchdown), Kyle Gebhart (27 yards), and Landon Lynch (13 yards). Running back Jason Dirk carried a heavy load with 22 rushes for 114 yards, added one catch for seven yards, and scored two touchdowns of his own. Despite the Cowboys’ balanced offensive efforts, Herreid Selby’s ability to force turnovers, convert key special-teams opportunities, and protect the lead in the closing stages secured the 22-19 win. The Wolverines will travel to Timber Lake to take on the Panthers next Thursday. The pregame will statt at 6:30 central, 7:30 mountain time.
